RPI+ pay offer made by Siemens
Members in Siemens, formerly BBC Technology, are being balloted on a 3% pay offer for 2006-2007.
The offer was made at a meeting with management on 10 March 2006.
The union negotiating team is recommending acceptance; and the ballot closes at 1200 on 30 March 2006.
Letter from BECTU to members employed by Siemens: Pay ballot 2006
13 March 2006
After a meeting on Friday 10th March Siemens management finally offered 3% on pay.
This letter sets out the details of the pay offer for 2006. I enclose a ballot paper which you should complete and return to BECTU Head office. BECTU is recommending that you vote in favour of accepting the offer because in our view it is ahead of inflation and therefore a real increase in pay.
We submitted our pay claim for all BBC members transferred to Siemens including those in Siemens ORS, Comms, and Solutions, those transferred to Siemens Republic of Ireland and seven members in Siemens PRS. The opening offer consisted of an increase in pay of 2.6% and a freeze in London Weighting (LW).
We told the management that this was unacceptable.
After a number of adjournments the final position was 3% on pay with the same increase being applied to Unpredictability Allowances, night pay, WOODs payments, Christmas/Boxing Day and New Year’s Day payments. The floors and ceilings of the salary bands will also be increased by 3%.
The ACAS Agreement will continue to apply which means that you will have six months for redeployment if your post is closed and five months for redeployment if you are selected for redundancy. In the past these two provisions have helped members in the BBC avoid redundancy.
Siemens believes that the current levels of LW are too high and took some persuading but under pressure from your negotiating team they conceded an increase of 2.5%, which is a fraction over the current RPI figure of 2.4%.
Siemens were prepared to include the seven members employed by Siemens PRS although they would not concede that we were recognised by Siemens PRS for collective bargaining.
Conclusion
This is a very straight forward offer which is 0.6% above inflation and BECTU is recommending that you accept it.
The increase in London weighting does not match the general increase but it is very slightly ahead of inflation and we can return to it next year if we wish.
Please ensure your completed ballot paper is returned to BECTU Head Office no later than Thursday 30th March at 12 noon.
This letter has been sent to you because our records show you to be a member working for Siemens on the BBC contract. If this is not the case, please email dlockwood@bectu.org.uk and let us know.
