DG receives training petition

The petition on the proposed privatisation of BBC Engineering Training has been presented to DG Mark Thompson.

The petition of more than 500 signatures was presented this morning when Mark Thompson met union representatives.

“Everyone wholeheartedly supports the belief that outsourcing would be damaging for both the BBC and wider industry”

The petition, organised by Wood Norton BECTU Rep Kevin Doig, follows the BBC asking Capita for more details than was in their original bid to take over Engineering Training.

Kevin told The Guardian: "The petition has been signed by people across the broadcast industry, both BBC and non-BBC, and the response has been stunning.

"Everyone wholeheartedly supports the belief that outsourcing would be damaging for both the BBC and wider industry.

"We are concerned that transferring us to a company with no broadcast background will destroy the training we give to people in industry and universities."
